PURLS HILL PEARLER

Braintree and District Motorcycle Club run round 3 of the 2022 Essex Oset Cup on Saturday 30th April. It was a change of venue for round 3 with riders heading North of Braintree to the village of Sible Hedingham where the wonderful Purls Hill venue sits. Purls Hill is an infamous trials venue in this part of the country hosting many top class events over the years. 8 sections to be covered over 4 laps was order of the day over the very hilly wooded venue.

Close competition raged across all ages and routes all morning. None more so than in Youth C with Reuben Green once again proving his class and taking the win on 22 marks. He had to fight for it at this round though as the diminutive Maya Butcher had a quite excellent ride on just 24 marks. The 4 mark swing on section 5 that Reuben cleaned all day proving the difference in the end. Maya finished 2nd on the podium and a big jump up from 4th last time out and pushed Harry Wicks down into 3rd.

On the yellow hard route Braintree Academy supported rider Fin Penny took the win by 10 marks from the young Tom Trevatt 77 marks to 87. Despite Fins bike having a new Vertigo Green paint job issues with his rear brake left him in trouble and Toby nearly pipped him at the line. In fact if Tom had of mastered the awkward step on section 7 the scores would have been reversed. A great ride by Tom nevertheless.

Meanwhile Toms younger brother Sam was busy winning the Youth E on 68 marks lost. Well done Sam!

Ride of the day again belonged to the mighty atom Reuben Keet from the Surrey Schoolboys club who had a quite brilliant ride on just 5 marks lost all day! This put him some 21 marks clear of little Thomas Tidd who again had a brilliant ride on the middle route. Thomas again is a rider improving with every trial and a future star in the making! Ipswich rider Jasper Johnson finished off the podium on 47.

Academy regulars Stanley Butcher and Barnaby Green had their usual battle in Youth D. This time out Stanley came out on top 16 marks to 36 with some excellent riding on sections 4 and 5 proving decisive. Young Arthur Teager rounded off the podium here battling around on 120 marks to highlight just how tough the course was.

In the older categories the girls again took the honours as Clara Wicks topped Youth A and Jorgana Fletcher Youth B. Will the boys ever beat them??

Big shout out to all the competitors who came and rode and the Junior Academy riders who came along to ride the Clubs bikes and experience this wonderful sport first hand. Several of those Junior Academy riders even attempted the sections which was great to see.

Round 4 of the series has changed date and is on 28th May – please get your entries in on the ACU website. Sorry for the date change but we look forward to seeing you all then! Remember the events are for all abilities and the emphasis is on having fun so please do not be intimidated and just come along for a practice ride if you do not want to attempt the sections.
